It really is ...I am absolutely fascinated by this. It really is very interesting. Dr's need to be "protected" from "drug reps" for sure. I mean, how else would they make rational decisions based on the evidence presented before them? The ABPI has now banned the giving of pens and pads to medical professionals and their secretaries in order to ensure that those professionals do not sell their soul to the pharmaceutical industry.

Quite right. They would you know! I mean, a few sandwiches along with a free pen whilst presenting has the most influential effect, and the Dr will do absolutely anything the rep tells them.

The pharmaceutical industry is the most regulated and restricted sector nowadays. If you are a consultant wishing to attend an educational meeting, then you can be assured that the hotel you are going to stay at is the most basic. The reason for this is that the ABPI had to ensure that these easily led individuals would only attend educational meetings for the actual content, as they cannot be trusted, they might just be going along to play golf, or eat a nice dinner.

Those pharma reps will do absolutely anything to get you to do what they say.....They will present data on their drug (in the hope that medical professionals will be motivated to do their own research) Bastards! They will provide lunch whilst presenting, We know this is complete bribery and corruption, but they think it's a better use of your time.....Dr's learn/are introduced to new data whilst they eat their lunch.

They will try to engage with you in a friendly, non-threatening way. Sly buggers! Of course, the medical professionals they meet are never rude or irrational in any way. Pharma reps know that some medical professionals are so afraid of their special powers and their connection to the devil that they try to overcome this by being ultra nice.

The basic salary of a "drug rep" is generally pretty good. The bonus schemes are not that lucrative. There are strict laws regulating this. Whatever the Dr does as a result of an interaction is not linked to the reps renumeration.

Directly: Your "put down" that seemed to "stun" her! Wow, if you are imagining her speaking about you in the pub, seriously, think again! Speak to a rep tomorrow, ask them about the best and worst interactions they have had when dealing with medical professionals. They will tell you stories that will make your toes curl! Rudeness or refusal to see will be in the "best" category.

Regarding your awkward interaction with the rep you were left with: The rep probably thought that you were socially retarded, either that or they knowingly smiled to themselves at the thought of being infinitely more powerful than you, after all, to have a conversation would render you helpless.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
