Medicare Part D - The Bandwagon's Rolling

Millions of US senior citizens have suddenly become fair game for hundreds of aggressive prescription drug benefit organizations that are aiming to capture the lion's share of the new Medicare Part D market.

Medicare Part D will be covering prescription medicines as of Jan. 1, 2006, for an estimated 43 million elderly and disabled beneficiaries. This is a huge new uptapped market for the drug benefit companies, which began this week to aggressively solicit patients through television and radio advertising as well as direct-mail campaigns. At least 10 different organizations are touting for the business.

But, beware, it turns out that people who are in managed care plans and sign up for a free standing drug plan with a different company may find their existing cover terminated.

Insiders' advice: read the small print, old-timers!
