Merck - A star is born!

"To say I would put profits before human safety is really completely outrageous," said Dr Alise Reicin, vice president of clinical research at Merck.

Move over Briggs Morrison and make way for what Merck have so desperately needed in this second Vioxx trial, a star performer!

Now, lets see how Alise does under cross examination..........

If Insider were the plaintiffs' lawyers he would ask about some email correspondence between her and her boss Edward Scolnick (reported in the WSJ).

The Journal said that an e-mail dated March 9, 2000 suggested Merck recognized Vioxx increased heart risk. Scolnick said cardiovascular events "are clearly there."

The article also said another e-mail, written years ago by Reicin, suggested people at high risk should be excluded from a trial so the rate of cardiovascular problems of Vioxx patients and others "would not be evident."

Your witness.
