January 1st 2006 - a moment of "Zen" and a day of change for AstraZeneca. Out goes "Old Father Time" CEO Sir Tom McKillop and in comes "Dynamo" Dave Brennan, former Chief of AZs' US operations.
So who steps into Dynamo Daves' shoes?
Step up "Grasshopper" Tony Zook (pictured above). Why "Grasshopper", you ask? Well, firstly, young Tony (45) is a student of the martial arts; karate and kung fu. Secondly, at college he was, for a time, a 6 foot 5 inch tall baseball shortstop!
Zook will be responsible for just under half of the total AZ business (in revenue terms in 2004: $9.6 billion of $21.4 billion) and will report into Brennan, his Zen master, who has now moved to the London.
Read the PR fluff here, if you want:
Insiders' view: Watch out AZ Europe! These guys will look at "headcount vs sales" stats and compare each country with the US.
Putting a moment of "Zen" back into AstraZeneca, indeed!
