The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry said today Abbott Laboratories was suspended from membership for a minimum of six months in connection to serious breaches of the ABPI Code of Practice.
This action follows a complaint about several activities in breach of the code. These alleged actions happened in 2004 and the compliant was made the following year. Abbott was already aware of the problems that had existed within the company before the complaint was made, according to the ABPI press release.
When informed of the complaint, Abbott had already undertaken a major investigation of events and review of its procedures, and three employees concerned had left the company, the ABPI said.
Insiders' view: the "few bad apples" defence again!
