Pharma Marketing Society Advertising Awards 2005

Insider was in the Great Room at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Londons' Mayfair to see this annual backslapping gala.

The compere was Irish comedian Dara O'Briain who soon had his audience nervously laughing about the current challenges for the pharmaceutical industry, namely increased regulation of what you can and cant do with doctors.

“Twenty years ago it was all lap dancing and champagne for the doctors,” he said. “These days you're lucky if you can give them a three-star hotel and a fucking biro.”

Really Dara! Insider did see his friends from Abbott there. He's not sure if they went onto The Spearmint Rhino after the function!

The truth, burns.

It's amazing that the industry can be so cluelessly self-congratulatory. You would think this would be a time to lie low and not tout your "achievements" in marketing. But, no, hubris knows no bounds.

Just as the Oscars has its satirical counterpart, the "Razzies," so too now does the industry have the Bitter Pill Awards, which Pharmagossip has previously written about. There's still time to submit nominations for your favorite outrageous or egregious pharma marketing campaign or pitch of the past year!
