Minority Medicine - creating customer evangalists

Here’s an interesting article about the various ways US Big Pharma are marketing to minority populations, including holding educational meetings in churches, and creating “customer evangelists” who reach out to others in their communities.

This is not a bad thing. It's about time drug companies realize that all patients are not middle age white men. Minorities may have unique problems due to diet, education about health and lifestyle, etc. There are numerous statistics to show that African-Americans are at higher risk for diabetes and high blood pressure. Isn't it possible Hispanics, women, Indians, Slavs, etc all have bring their own set of issues?

True patient education is one thing, but disease mongering is another thing...

Glaxo has been doing this for years with their HIV meds and Magic Johnson. They are just using "idols" to sell medicines that are less effective than other therapies.
