AstraZeneca - near perfect irony

The Medicines Company has developed a portfolio of products from Big Pharma "cast offs".

Two came from AstraZeneca and were part of Astra’s active portfolio prior to its merger.

Acquired in 2003, one of the former Astra drugs is clevidipine. It is being developed to control blood pressure during surgery and should see a new drug application filed with the FDA in the next year.

The other drug is Cangrelor, an anticoagulant with potential uses in cardiac surgery.

No doubt many executives at AZ at the time had expensive high powered meetings and finally decided to stick with their real winners!

You know; Exanta, Iressa and Galida.
