Bausch & Lomb Inc. failed to promptly notify federal regulators about 35 cases of a potentially blinding fungal infection among contact lens wearers in Singapore who reported using its newest contact lens cleaner, the FDA has stated.
The announcement was based on a government inspection of the company's South Carolina plant.
The eye-care company permanently pulled its ReNu with MoistureLoc solution from markets worldwide Monday. Health officials are investigating links between the cleaner and an outbreak of Fusarium keratitis infections dating back to June.
The company's shares fell $1.37, or 2.7 percent, to close at $48.71 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
Bausch & Lomb faces a growing number of lawsuits from users of its ReNu contact lens solution.
