TGN 1412 - Te Genero throw in the towel

The German biotech company whose drug TGN 1412 put two UK men in a deep coma following their participation in a clinical trial has announced it is going into liquidation.

TeGenero, who produced the drug, which was disastrously tested by US firm Parexel earlier this year, said its insolvency had come as a direct result of the negative publicity generated by its case.

The firm's failure to attract investors for future funding was caused by the substantial press coverage the case attracted, TeGenero explained in a statement.

More here.

Insider's view: and how does this leave the poor trial volunteers and their hopes of any (completely justifiable) compensation. At least one of the volunteers is facing surgery on damaged fingers and toes (picture).

One hopes Parexel will now step upto the plate and do the right thing.

Let's see!
