South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster plans to file a lawsuit against five drug companies for allegedly overcharging Medicaid and the State Health Plan by $40 million, the AP/Charlotte Observer reports.
The suit will accuse Abbott, Baxter, Dey L.P., Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane and Schering-Plough of intentionally inflating the average wholesale price of their medications.
McMaster said, "The drug companies are overcharging the taxpayers in South Carolina. The goal of this is to bring that money back ... and also to restore public confidence in the stewardship of public funds".
