Generics - Barr must really want Pliva

Barr Pharmaceuticals has now offered $2.5 billion in cash to take over Croatian drugmaker Pliva, ratcheting up a bidding war with Iceland's Actavis to become the world's third-largest maker of generic drugs.

To date, the battle between Barr and Actavis has added about $800 million, or $20 a share, to the price tag for Pliva, Eastern Europe's largest pharmaceutical company.
