An official probe into UK medicine pricing is unlikely to come up with a better option to the existing 50-year-old system, the head of the country’s pharmaceutical manufacturers association said on Tuesday.
Richard Barker, director general of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, said there were no signs that the Office of Fair Trading consumer affairs watchdog wanted to rip up the current Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS).
"We haven’t heard that they’ve found some fatal flaw in the PPRS, which I think is significant," he told reporters. "Whilst you could conceive of many different schemes, we doubt they’ve found anything out there that is superior to the PPRS."
