Pfizer is to axe 500 jobs in County Cork in the Irish Republic with the closing of two plants between 2008 and 2009.
The cuts come after Pfizer last month announced a cost-cutting plan that would see 10,000 jobs cut from its worldwide workforce.
Pfizer employs 2,200 people at six bases in Ireland, most of those in Cork, and the rest in plants in and around Dublin.
