Quote of the day

"We believe that some physicians have been prescribing the new Cox-2 inhibitors as the first line of treatment," says Dr. Elliott Antman, professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School and Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital.

"For chronic pain in patients with known heart disease or who are at risk for heart disease, these drugs should be the last line of treatment."

Of course, they were doc. This is how those big pharma companies that had them, launched them. Remember the Celebrex's launch in USA? It was like they introduced a new candy for the kids. Within weeks everyone and your brother was on Celebrex. Even in Canada few months later the trend continued. All Park-Davies and Pfizer reps were doing was, delivering boxes of Clebrex samples to specialists and GP's. and the doctors were giving them out like candy.
Now there is a new kid on the block, Prextige, by Novartis in Canada and soon in USA. Watch what their reps are doing. Most likely they will"sell" it for pain as first line therapy and/or replacement for Celebrex and Vioxx, that were used as first line, as a result of the hype.
In Canada the only indication is, ostiorthritis of the kees, but they will not limit themselves to thet, especially we do not have any anti false claims laws that would punish them if caught as in USA.
