When faced with high deductibles, many patients forgo medications rather than switch from brand-name drugs to less expensive generics, according to a study released today by Express Scripts.
While implementing higher-deductible plans save employers money, Express Scripts said the savings might lead to expensive complications if patients fail to take necessary medications.
"That deductible makes people buy fewer drugs, that's the key finding here," said Glenn Moller, vice president of product development for Express Scripts.
