Pfizer has begun its strategy for the long-awaited layoffs at its Ann Arbor research facilities.
“The larger waves of exits have begun,” said Rick Chambers, a spokesman for Pfizer. “We expect to see the employee count in Ann Arbor drop from 1,900 today to less than 900 by the end of the summer. Then we’ll be down under 400 by the end of the year.”
The pharmaceutical giant, which announced plans to cut 2,410 jobs in Michigan back in January, said it laid off 50 employees earlier this month and plans to cut between 50 and 150 workers in two-week cycles throughout the summer.
