AstraZeneca UK get on the Pfizer bandwagon

AstraZeneca UK will launch a new direct drug distribution deal in Britain on Feb. 2, despite a warning from the country's consumer affairs watchdog, The Office of Fair Trading, that such arrangements may push up costs.

The Anglo-Swedish group, which is the second drugmaker to take such a step after Pfizer UK said on Wednesday the move to work with customers directly would deliver more effective and efficient healthcare.

AstraZeneca intends supply its medicines in future exclusively through Alliance Boots unit UniChem and Celesio AG's unit AAH Pharmaceuticals.
