Attention Sanofi Aventis shareholders

PARIS (Reuters) - A U.S. law firm plans to file a lawsuit seeking class-action status against Sanofi-Aventis on behalf of shareholders, alleging the pharmaceuticals group hid the side-effects of its anti-obesity drug Acomplia, French daily Les Echos reported.

The firm, Schiffrin, Barroway, Topaz & Kessler, seeks to represent investors who bought Sanofi-Aventis shares between February 17, 2006 and June 13, 2007, the day when an advisory committee said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should reject the proposed pill, called Zimulti in the United States, because of concerns it could increase suicidal thinking and depression.

The recommendation triggered a sharp fall in Sanofi's share price in the following days.
