GlaxoSmithKline is being sued for as much as 15.7 million pounds ($31 million) by several hundred U.K. patients who said it was difficult to stop taking the antidepressant Seroxat.
``The claims are being brought here by people who allege they've had withdrawal,'' Mark Harvey, the lawyer who filed the suit in London, said today.
The U.K. lawsuit seeks between 15,000 pounds and 50,000 pounds each on behalf of 314 people who allege personal injury from Seroxat, known in the U.S. as Paxil, according to the Dec. 19 filing and the London High Court register.
The patients claim negligence or statutory breach of duty dating back to 1997.
