Novartis, the pharmaceutical company planning to cut 2,500 jobs during the next two years, will close a research center in Japan by December as part of a reorganization of its global drug-discovery business.
Switzerland's biggest drugmaker employs 123 scientists at the facility, located east of Tokyo, said Masashi Uemura, a spokesman for the Basel, Switzerland-based company's local unit, in a telephone interview today.
