PharmedOut sldeshow

PharmedOut announces the public release of its successful slideshow, The Physician-Pharma Relationship, designed to educate physicians and medical students about how pharmaceutical marketing practices affect prescribing behavior.

“Pharmaceutical companies spend more than the entire NIH budget on promoting drugs,” states Adriane Fugh-Berman MD, director of PharmedOut and Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University Medical Center. “We seem to be convincing physicians that gifts, meals and attention do affect what they prescribe.”

“PharmedOut is helping physicians make their own decisions by educating them about how drugs are marketed,” states Douglas Melnick MD, MPH, a public health physician in Los Angeles who once worked for a pharmaceutical company's medical communications group in support of pharmaceutical marketing campaigns.

“We’ve given this presentation at more than a dozen venues, and it really seems to affect physicians,” states Dr. Fugh-Berman “We’re releasing the slideshow to spread this information to as many people as possible.“

The slideshow, a handout and references are all available at: http://www.pharmedout.org/tools.htm#show.
