This is very interesting. We've been repeatedly oriented about the behavioral side effects of SSRIs such as Prozac and how antidepressants can elevate moods to the point of producing suicidal tendencies without really eliminating depressive emotions. But for an asthma/allergy drug to cause depression and suicide? I wonder what substance in Singulair (if proven true) can trigger such moods and behaviors. Well, I guess that can be determined in the next 9 months or so.
I started taking Singulair a month ago for allergies and asthma. The drug was doing wonders for my asthma... but I did notice a quick slide of my mood - I became irritable, had a hard time enjoying anything... and started having suicidal thoughts.
These feelings and behaviors seemed to come out of the blue. I did some research and decided to go off the drug for a while to see if my mood improved - which it did quite quickly.
I hope that the FDA does not remove the drug from the market - I know it is helping many people. I do think, though, that its use needs to be carefully monitored and consumers fairly warned. JC in ND
There are so many people who have negative thoughts and are plagued by negative thinking. These negative thoughts create fear, suicidal thoughts, anger, and agitation and there is seemingly no apparent reason for these thoughts to occur. Everyone who has this habit must try to learn how to stop it and must try to bring on a more positive way of thinking. http://www.xanax-effects.com/
