OOPS!
Right in the middle of yesterday's wall-to-wall coverage of the papal visit, cable news channel NY1 ran an ad for birth control pills.
A promo for Seasonique, a drug that also promises women fewer periods, aired at 8:59 a.m. just as the pope's plane was headed from Washington to Kennedy Airport.
"It was in fact an error on our part," red-faced NY1 spokeswoman Nikia Redhead told Page Six. The goof occurred, she explained, because the commercial was merely labeled 'Barr Pharmaceuticals' - and that was all technicians knew about it before they put it on the air. "It wasn't something that is labeled 'Seasonique' or something associated with birth control," she said.
Catholic teaching for centuries has held that birth control is counter to God's design for the human race, and some Catholics even see the pill as a form of abortion.
