If The Wire is Dickensian, then The Sopranos is Shakespearian.
The Wire is less Dickensian than it is a reflection of classic Greek tragedy, in which even the best men are destroyed by gods/systems beyond their control.
But the Shakespearean thing holds up for the Sopranos.
