In 2005, the US pharmaceutical industry employed an estimated 102,000 sales reps, or one rep for every eight physicians.
By 2012, that number is expected to plummet to just 75,000. Last year alone, 7,700 sales jobs were eliminated, not including a rumoured 1,200 job cuts at Pfizer.
