Pharma Giles writes.....

A genuine message that's been appearing in the in-boxes of the hapless galley slaves at GSK's UK sites...

"As I mentioned to you during my December broadcast, we have adopted an idea first used in GSK by IT and today are launching the Idea Engine.

The Idea Engine is a simple online tool that allows each and every one of us to submit ideas and recommendations for simplifying our company. Once an idea is submitted, you can view, comment and vote ‘for’ or ‘against’ the idea. We will run the programme over the coming weeks to identify the top three ideas which will make the biggest difference to GSK. And I give you my commitment; CET will recognise individuals and take forward the ideas you particularly want to see made.

I want every individual to think about their scope of responsibility, be honest and have the courage to identify what they can do differently so we don’t get bogged down with complexity. As you have heard me say many times before, complexity is rather like one person’s bureaucracy is another person’s essential system, and we all own a responsibility for the complexity and the bureaucracy we deal with in the company. We all take part in systems, some of us create systems, some of us add to them and it is those systems which sometimes sap the energy of the organisation. It is really important that, individually, we take accountability for what we can do to help make this organisation work more quickly.

This is your opportunity to get involved and become part of our simplification process. I ask you to make constructive proposals and identify processes that are particularity laborious. Even if you don’t have the solutions then enter your thoughts and pose the question of how they could be fixed to help us succeed.

So visit the Idea Engine now and submit your idea!

Best regards,

Andrew Witty"

Here's an idea, Andy. Do your homework before buying a $780 million pig in a poke...
