Lilly to cut 200 sales, marketing support jobs | The Indianapolis Star

Eli Lilly and Co. plans to cut 200 sales and marketing support jobs Friday in its U.S. biomedicine group, with more than half of those cuts taking place in Indianapolis, a company spokesman confirmed Thursday. The cuts are the latest wave of the drugmaker's previously announced plans to chop 5,500 jobs worldwide by the end of 2011 in response to financial pressures.

Lilly workers who lose their jobs will have an opportunity to apply for other openings within the company, although openings are limited, Lilly spokesman Ed Sagebiel said. Friday's cuts will be the largest since Lilly eliminated 200 jobs from its research laboratories in March.
