Clinicians face Whitehall job cull

Hundreds of doctors and nurses employed directly on projects by the department of health face losing their jobs in the savings drive, it was revealed yesterday.

Up to 2,000 staff are at risk in the cull of health department programmes, the Guardian reported.

Plans to axe all the directly-funded programmes were drawn up in March, the paper says, and all but 300 are not classed as civil servants.
