Bristol-Myers Squibb has appointed Dr Rick Lones as executive medical director in the UK.

He joins BMS from AstraZeneca, where he has held a number of local, regional and global roles in medical affairs over the last 11 years.

His most recent role at the company was head of global medical affairs, where he was responsible for teams spanning the whole portfolio based in the US, UK and Sweden.

In his new role he will report into BMS’ chief medical officer for Europe Magnus Jaderberg.

Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, Dr Lones worked as a GP for 10 years, including seven years as a medical officer in the Royal Air Force, and saw active service in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War.

Commenting on the appointment, Frédéric Duchesne, European VP and general manager of BMS UK, said: “Bristol-Myers Squibb is recognised as having one of the healthiest pipelines in the industry, and so we are delighted to have Rick join us as medical director.

“He brings a wealth of clinical and commercial experience that will help us maximise the commercial potential of our existing and new products, and make a positive difference to the lives of patients who are fighting serious diseases.”
