Ex-Sciota medical supplier charged with $12 million in health care fraud | PoconoRecord.com

"Mr. Salerno allegedly misused his position as a pharmacist to make millions, while leaving patients, insurance companies and taxpayers to foot the bill," said Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett, whose office assisted with the federal investigation.

If convicted, Salerno faces up to 28 years in prison and fines of up to $750,000.

One of Salerno's former employees sued him in 2005 for violating the state Whistleblower Act. The employee alleged he was fired after he refused to restock pills — left over from previous nursing home prescription orders and supposed to be destroyed — to illegally sell to customers for a profit, according to a Pocono Record article.
