Matthew Lloyd, who works as a nurse at Southampton General Hospital, failed to turn up for treatment in Oxford earlier this week, sparking police concerns.
The 35-year-old is believed to have been injected with the life-threatening disease as part of a London-based trial.
He was due to attend a vital treatment session on Thursday but phoned in ill to work shortly before and has not been seen since.
