ATLANTA -- A federal judge in Georgia has approved Allergan Inc.'s decision to pay $600 million to settle a five-year-long federal investigation into its marketing of wrinkle-smoothing Botox.
U.S. District Court Judge Orinda D. Evans on Tuesday approved the company's decision to plead guilty to one misdemeanor charge of "misbranding" in which the company's marketing led physicians to use Botox for unapproved uses like headaches and pain.
The company will pay $375 million in connection with the criminal side of the plea, and an additional $225 million in civil fines. The company also denies liability for the civil claims.
