The report, carried out by Medical Education England, the Government’s advisory body, warned that patients were being placed at ‘unnecessary risk’ due to failings in the junior doctors’ foundation training programme.
It also warned that juniors were being expected to work ‘outside their level of competence and without appropriate supervision’.
The review, led by Professor John Collins from the University of Oxford, added: ‘The belief by some that “being thrown in at the deep end” remains an acceptable way to learn reflects a failure to recognise the centrality of safe patient care.’
Looking beyond the spin of Big Pharma PR. But encouraging gossip. Come in and confide, you know you want to! “I’ll publish right or wrong. Fools are my theme, let satire be my song.” Email: jackfriday2011(at)hotmail.co.uk
