Biogen Idec announced Wednesday it is closing its 360,000-square-foot campus comprising the 43-acre Nobel Research Center property in the University Towne Centre area on Jan. 10, resulting in the loss of 327 jobs here.
The Biogen Idec (Nasdaq: BIIB) closure announcement comes just a month after the firm sold the Nobel Research Center campus for $128 million to Pasadena-based Alexandria Real Estate Equities, (NYSE: ARE) -- a publicly traded real estate investment trust. The property was subsequently leased back for 15 months, but is expected to be emptied long before that.
