Drug-firm fees to University of Miami doctors are questioned - MiamiHerald.com

At UM, ``in some cases, the payments listed on the school's website were smaller than reported by drug companies,'' ProPublica reported. ``One physician who [Eli] Lilly paid nearly $17,000 had nothing listed on Miami's website. In other cases, a university official said, faculty members apparently attributed payments from a drug company to third parties, obscuring the actual source.''

Jorge Guerra, UM's vice president for clinical affairs, told ProPublica the school ``has referred some physicians for possible disciplinary action.''

Pascal Goldschmidt, UM medical school dean, said Monday: ``The ProPublica effort is helping us optimize our reporting. It is a process.''
