The US Drug Watchdog is initiating a national outreach to any US Citizen, who has had a hip replacement involving a DePuy hip implant. The group says, "there are nearly 100,000 US citizens who have a DePuy hip implant; we fear many are defective, and we need to hear from anyone who has had this hip replacement implant device since 2005." On March 10, 2010, the New York Times reported that, "DePuy Orthopaedic's, a division of Johnson & Johnson, recently warned doctors that its ASR hip replacement cup (also called a “socket”) was failing in patients within a few years after hip replacement, when such implants should typically be expected to last 15 or more years." The US Drug Watchdog says, "these DePuy hip failures can lead to costly and very painful replacement operations, called revision operations. DePuy’s ASR implant cup and metal ball was cleared for use in the United States in 2005 by the Food and Drug Administration. We are calling this a disaster for these DePuy hip implant victims, and we want to hear from everyone who has one." For more information DePuy hip implant victims, or their loved ones can call the US Drug Watchdog anytime at 866-714-6466, or they can contact the group via its web site at http://USDrugWatchdog.Com.
