FDA scientists have risked their careers and some have even lost their jobs in order to protect our health and safety. Now another leading whistleblower is on the verge of losing her job. It is our turn to help them!
Over the past two years a group of eleven distinguished FDA scientists and physicians explained in letters to Congress that the agency used intimidation and coercion tactics as a means of getting FDA experts to approve unsafe and defective medical devices. Important health and safety regulatory requirements were sidestepped, illegitimate safety evaluation procedures were utilized and inaccurate scientific and technical data were relied upon in approving these medical devices.
As reported in the national news media, FDA managers, more concerned with pleasing industry than protecting Americans, pushed the approval of medical devices that lead to unnecessary risks, cancers, and even death.
The FDA has long been an unfriendly place for whistleblowers. Scientists and researchers who put the health and safety of Americans before corporate interests have been rewarded with brutal retaliation. Now, the FDA has taken it one step farther. They issued a notice of proposed removal to a 23-year veteran medical doctor and Ph.D. scientist. Her alleged crime that caused this notice was nine emails to a fellow FDA whistleblower who was acting as the employees' attorney in reporting FDA misconduct to Congress.
FDA employees should not be afraid to speak honestly and freely about misconduct that threatens the health and safety of all Americans.
Time is of the essence. The whistleblower can be fired as early as Tuesday, January 18, 2011.
Please pass this alert on to your friends, coworkers and family.
