A month after Attorney General Eric Schneiderman declared war on government cheats, today he announced a multimillion settlement today with one of them – a pharmaceutical giant that inflated the price of drugs sold to the state.
Our resident health expert, Kate Lucadamo, reports:
Pharmacia Corp. paid $2.5 million to the state’s Medicaid program and the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program as part of the settlement, according to the AG’s office. The company also had to cough up $50,000 for the cost of the investigation.
“New York’s taxpayers will no longer foot the bill when contractors inflate their prices to make an extra buck,” Schneiderman said.
The AG’s office filed the suit in 2003 when then-boss Eliot Spitzer charged the company with giving inaccurate prices that didn’t take into account discounts, rebates and other price concessions that wholesalers gets.
Looking beyond the spin of Big Pharma PR. But encouraging gossip. Come in and confide, you know you want to! “I’ll publish right or wrong. Fools are my theme, let satire be my song.” Email: jackfriday2011(at)hotmail.co.uk
