35 Houston-Area Women File Lawsuit Against AstraZeneca

HOUSTON - A lawsuit alleges 35 Houston-area women suffered bone fractures and bone loss as a result of taking the prescription drug Nexium.

The women are seeking damages from pharmaceutical manufacturer AstraZeneca for a number of reasons including physical pain, mental anguish and lost earnings as a result of their injuries.

Nexium is used to combat acid reflux disease.

The lawsuit cites an FDA safety alert regarding prescription-pump proton inhibitors, like Nexium, and their connection to increased bone fracture risk.

It also claims studies dating back to 2006, indicate PPIs are linked to bone loss due to its interference with the body’s ability to absorb calcium.

The women are represented by the Gibson Law Firm.
