Forest Labs Receives Subpoena Related To Hypertension Treatments - FoxBusiness.com

Forest Laboratories Inc. (FRX) on Monday disclosed it received a Justice Department subpoena requesting documents related to Benicar and Azor, prescription medications that treat hypertension.

The drug maker, which didn't highlight any specifics of the subpoena, said it intended to cooperate with the government. The subpoena, dated April 20, was issued by the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.

The news comes after Forest Labs made headlines late last month, when it was reported the Department of Health and Human Services notified the company's chief executive, Howard Solomon, it intended to exclude him from doing business with the federal government. The move could prevent Forest Labs from selling its drugs to the government, a major customer of all drug companies.

The government's actions stem from an investigation into the company's marketing of its big-selling antidepressants Celexa and Lexapro. The company later resolved the allegations by agreeing to pay $313 million to resolve criminal and civil allegations against Forest Labs in connection with the distribution and marketing of some drugs.
