Merck and Wal-Mart weren’t far behind in the ranking, which was clearly dominated by pharmaceutical companies, including Bristol-Myers Squibb, AstraZeneca and Sanofi-Aventis. Bank of America and Wells Fargo also appeared among the most sued companies in the state. On the list of 10 companies, the banks were No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.

John Brenner, a Princeton attorney who has defended pharmaceutical companies, said the findings aren’t so surprising, especially if you consider the volume of advertising that is done by attorneys who are trying to attract personal injury-type claims against the drugmakers and other big companies.
