Layoffs at Pfizer’s Newbridge, Ireland factory | The Post

Drug firm Pfizer is preparing to lay off more staff from its pharmaceutical plant at Newbridge in Co Kildare, which it acquired in the purchase of Wyeth two years ago.

The US company announced plans a year ago to lay off 275 of the 1,100 staff at the factory over three years.

However, it is now reviewing that plan, and is expected to make more workers redundant.

Informed sources said that the final figure could be close to 400 people, or more than one-third of the staff.

A spokeswoman for Pfizer said that some staff had already left the firm as part of the plan announced last year, but would not comment on the numbers involved.
