The Food and Drug Administration is under attack from Congress for awarding large cash bonuses to many of its highest-paid managers at a time when the agency has been short of funds and criticized for failing to properly monitor the safety of medicines, medical devices and food.
FDA documents supplied by the House Energy and Commerce Committee show that some of the cash bonuses were more than $40,000 annually on top of salaries as high as $160,000.
