GSK - Paxil: just in time for Halloween

A writer under contract _asks_ for all the relevant data, but none of us have the magical power to force our clients to let us _see_ it. It's the same situation for an accountant, who in good faith produces an budget statement: if there's a second, hidden set of books, there is no way for him or her to know.
Why is it that the _writers_ are assumed to have so much power over these documents? Most of us don't even have control over the acknowledgement forms [i.e., if a doctor we've worked with decides at the last moment not to reveal our work together, the writers don't have 'Final Approval' of the text, so we can't write ourselves back in], and the world seems to think we are the people controlling the data.
