There might be fireworks!

‘Medicine shortages – what can be done? Has the UK become the new Greece?’

Chaired by Nigel Brooksby, Executive Chairman, sanofi-aventis, we have invited three guest speakers to: describe the current situation; give a patient perspective; and, lastly, look at any learnings we can take from other industries such as cars, cigarettes, cosmetics, all of which have significant export-import challenges.

Our three key speakers are:

  • Seyed Mortazavi, General Manager, IMS, UK, Ireland & South Africa
  • Larry Berry, Chief Executive, Datapharm
  • Paul Sloman, Director, Management Engineers.

After these ‘plenary’ sessions, we have invited Sue Sharpe, PSNC; John Turk, Chief Executive, NPA; David Fisher, Commercial Director, ABPI and Jonathan Mason, National Clinical Director for Community Pharmacy & Pricing Care, Department of Health to join us as panellists.

Unique patient survey
Of particular note, I am delighted that Datapharm are conducting a patient survey for PDC. You may know that the Datapharm website attracts around 6 million hits/year. Datapharm are running a ‘popup’ survey, inviting patients to give their experiences, if any, of medicine shortages.

Learn from other industries
Many industries have faced and are facing export/import challenges. Experts in this field are Management Engineers who work on supply chain issues for many of the major blue chip companies. Paul Sloman, director and owner of their UK division, will be sharing with us lessons he feels are pertinent to pharmacos.
