Archie Cochrane and his vision for evidence-based medicine
In 1971, “Effectiveness and Efficiency”, a monograph less than a hundred pages long, hit the shelves and shook the field of medicine. Cochrane hurriedly wrote most of the first draft for the book within a span of just three hours to meet a publishing deadline.32 He was, therefore, pleasantly surprised at the enormous success of the book. It was written with the target audience being medical students and non-medical intellectuals. In addition to receiving highly favorable reviews, the book was translated into Spanish, French, Italian and Polish.
