Merck trial - A Reicin star?

Dr Alise Reicin, Mercks' VP and star witness in the second Vioxx trial is a most interesting woman. She has ascended the corporate ladder at an amazing speed: from entry level researcher to company Vice President in less than a decade is a meteoric performance.

She has clearly been doing somthing right, Insider observes.

What might that be, one must speculate? Clearly her career has been joined at the hip with the development of Vioxx. Her role as chair of the Vioxx Commercialization Committee in 2001 was a key position within Merck, both for medical and marketing responsibilities and activities.

Indeed, in court, attorney David Buchanan questioned Dr. Reicin about performance reviews in which she was described as "a tireless defender of the Vioxx franchise."

Tireless is right. Indeed, Dr Reicin has been on the stand for a good while already in this trial and her time in the spotlight will continue next week. Insider is sure that some hard questions are still to come.

Dr Reicin rose with Vioxx. That is clearly now a falling star. Insider wonders if now she will be able to separate herself from Vioxx and continue her own upwards trajectory.
