The owners of Germany's Schwarz Pharma have started a process to sell their stake in the company, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters late on Friday.
The source said that talks had been started some weeks ago.
A second source said that a decision on a possible sale was nearing.
The Schwarz-Schuette family which owns around 60 percent of the company expect a price of around 4 billion euros ($5.13 billion), and it is not yet clear whether the interested parties are strategic investors or private equity firms, the first source said.
