Sold down the Pearl River - former Lederle employees mourn Pfizer layoffs

The idea that something like this is going to happen can't do anything but break your heart," said Chuck Isberg, who retired in 1993 after 39 years as Lederle's director of community relations. "It's hard to imagine Rockland without that business.

"They changed the rules on us midstream," said Bob Bosley, 52, who now works for a different company. "I was a top performer, and they cut my knees out from under me."

It's a shame. I worked there for 10 years and left in 1986 to move cross country. Lederle employed people their entire working lives and gave a great income to every level of worker. It's a sad sign of the times that this is gone forever. Pfizer stepped in and put an end to so many people's livlihoods that put food on the table. Shame on Pfizer and all other corporate giants who are creating so much despair in this country.
